Federal Skilled Worker Class
Federal skilled worker applicants are assessed based on a series of factors, which are designed to indicate the likelihood of becoming economically established in Canada. Applications are assessed on six selection criteria in a points system.

Provincial Nominee Class
Provincial nominees are selected based on their ability to contribute to the province's economic development. Usually, a genuine Canadian job offer from an employer within the province is required under the Provincial Nominee Program.

Investors Category
To qualify as an investor, an applicant must have a net worth of at least CAD$800,000, management experience and the intention to make a secured passive investment of CAD$400,000.

To qualify as a self-employed persons, an applicant must be willing and able to support him/herself and any dependents with self-employed income as a farmer, athlete, or artist.

Family Class
To be eligible for Family Class Sponsorship, applicants who wish to immigrate to Canada must have a close relative willing to sponsor them and that relative must either be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident residing in Canada.

Live-in Caregiver Class
Live-in caregivers provide child care, senior support care, or care of the disabled in private households. Once live-in caregivers complete a two-year work contract with a Canadian employer, they can apply for a permanent resident in Canada.

Work Permit
For foreign nationals to work in Canada, they must obtain a valid work permit. In most cases, in order to obtain a work permit, they must get a valid employment offer from an employer and have it validated by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC).

A study permit is a written authorization issued to foreign students to engage in studies in Canada. If the program of studies is six months or less, a study permit is not required. However, in some cases a study permit is required.
